Bushokjes. De Canadees Christopher Herwig komt ze tegen tijdens een fietstocht naar Sint-Petersburg. De gebouwtjes ontsnappen aan de strikte regels van de sovjet architectuur. Simpelweg omdat ze klein zijn. En dus gaan de architecten los. Met als resultaat unieke, fantasievolle architectuur. Een middel om lokale en artistieke concepten uit te drukken. Herwig noemt het testamenten van individuele creativiteit. Poëtische daden van verzet.
Hij reist in twaalf jaar tijd meer dan 30.000 kilometer door 14 landen van de voormalige Sovjet-Unie. Hij spaart kosten nog moeite de opvallende bushaltes op te zoeken en te fotograferen. Nu ze er nog zijn. En omdat er nauwelijks informatie over is, praat hij met experts, spoort makers op en raapt hij stukje voor stukje de puzzelstukjes bij elkaar over het ontstaan.
